Former dancer Empress Cynthia Yee was born and raised in San Francisco's historic Chinatown. At the age of 9, was inspired by nightclub performer, Dorothy Toy the first Asian to be booked into the London Palladium. Cynthia pursued a career in Magic after meeting Tamaka, who built an illusion for a fundraising event that she was producing.

Cynthia recently won the prestigious Jefferson Award for forming the Grant Avenue Follies, a revue originally composed of four nightclub dancers from the fifties and sixties, coming out of tetirement to dance for the joy and freedom of movement and doctor's orders to exercise for a healthier body. The group now has twelve members, which includes a retired high school principle, dentist, and practicing attorney.
